During the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show Western Digital introduced new SanDisk prototype for 1 TB Type-C USB flash drive. It’s not the first usb flash drive offering high storage, for example Kingston announced 2TB flash drive DataTraveler Ultimate GT.
The cost is not known yet, but rest assured that it will be from $800 at least. It is known, that drive will be compatible with mobile devices, notebooks and desktops, which has USB-C connectivity available.
The physical size is incredibly small: 1.77 × 0.49 × 0.27 inches only. Though we dont know read and write speed, but we know that USB-C can support up to 5Gbps transfer speeds.
The flash drive’s eventual price will likely depend on the type of flash technology used in the stick. There are plenty of external SSDs sold on the market with 1TB of storage for around $350, such as the Samsung T5 Portable SSD with read and write speeds of up to 540MB/s. It measures 2.3 × 0.4 × 3.0 inches, which isn’t exactly monstrous in your pocket, but nowhere near as slim as the SanDisk prototype measuring a mere 1.77 × 0.49 × 0.27 inches.
